Your installation kit will contain a tar file. In the
following replace sys.tar by the name of the appropriate tar
file for your system.

Unpack sys.tar using the command

tar xvf sys.tar .

You can now run sedt if the directory containing all these files
is your current working directory.

Please note that sedt is configured for non-EDT key mapping. Read
the file sedtman.new for instructions on how to run the editor.
To reconfigure Sedt for EDT-style mapping, change MAPPING=NEW to
MAPPING=EDT in the file sedt.cnf.

To make sedt runnable from any directory do the following:

Include the directory containing the file sedt in your path, or
copy it to some directory already listed in the path.

At this stage you can run sedt from any directory. Some more
customization will make sedt initialize faster and also organize
the files better.

The first step is to define the environment variable SEDT to
point to the directory containing the files extracted from the
tar file. They way this is done depends on the shell that each
user is running.

Each user running the Bourne shell (sh) should include the following
in .profile in their home directory (assuming you put the files
in /usr/bin/sedt, otherwise use the appropriate directory)

#SEDT=/usr/bin/sedt
#export SEDT

For users running the System V shell (sh5) or the Korn shell (ksh),
either the system administrator should include the following
in /etc/profile, or each user should include the following in
.profile in their home directory (assuming you put the files
in /usr/bin/sedt, otherwise use the appropriate directory)

#SEDT=/usr/bin/sedt
#export SEDT

Each user running the C shell (csh) should include the following in
.cshrc in their home directory

setenv SEDT /usr/bin/sedt

To allow anybody to save ruler files and other files Sedt may
save for you, you should define the environment variable SEDTP
to point to a directory in the user's directory tree. For
example, if using the Bourne shell, System V shell or Korn shell,
include the following along with the other SEDT initialisation lines
(in /etc/profile and/or .profile, whichever is applicable)

#SEDTP=$HOME
#export SEDTP

For the C shell include the following in .cshrc

setenv SEDTP $HOME

NOTE:

For the Bourne shell or C shell, it is not uncommon for system
administrators to have a system-wide profile or cshrc (emulating the
use of /etc/profile by the System V and Korn shells). Each user's
.profile or .cshrc executes this system-wide file using the "source"
command, for example

source /etc/cshrc

(This line would be placed in the skeleton .profile or .cshrc
in /usr/skel, which new accounts are given by default).

If this is the case on your system, then simply add the above
SEDT environment variable definitions to these system-wide shell
setup files.

NOTE:

Four command shells are offered with ULTRIX Version V4.0 - the Bourne
shell (sh), the C shell (csh), the System V shell (sh5) and the Korn
shell (ksh). Only the Bourne shell and C shell are shipped with
versions of ULTRIX prior to V4.0.

The Korn shell is an upwardly compatible superset of the Bourne shell
and the System V shell. If using either of these shells, switching to
the Korn shell is recommended.
